Abstract:
We give an expository account of Vershik-Okounkov
approach to the representation theory of symmetric
groups (based on the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis and the
Young-Jucys-Murphy elements.) If time permits, we
explain some geometrical problems which lead to certain
conjectural statements generalizing V-O approach.
