Michal Hrbek received the Czech Mathematical Society Prize
The president of the Czech Mathematical Society, Prof Luboš Pick, awarded Dr Michal Hrbek the Czech Mathematical Society Prize for Young Researchers during the ceremony at the Conference of Czech Mathematicians in Ostrava on April 5, 2022.
The aim of the prize is to support undergraduate and graduate students and younger researchers in their interest in theoretical and applied mathematics. The Czech Mathematical Society Prize is awarded once in four years to at most four researchers or teams for papers or collections of research papers in theoretical or applied mathematics published or accepted for publishing in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings within the last four years.
Jan Papež received the Otto Wichterle Award
Professor Eva Zažímalová, the president of the Czech Academy of Sciences, granted Dr Jan Papež, the promising researcher of the Institute of Mathematics, the Otto Wichterle Award on June 20, 2022, during the ceremony in Villa Lanna. Dr Jan Papež was among 25 perspective researchers who received the Otto Wichterle Award this year. Czech Academy of Sciences grants this honourable award to stimulate and encourage selected, exceptionally outstanding scientists under the age of 35, employed in the institutes of the Academy, for their remarkable contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their areas of science. Sincere congratulations.

Podpora Ukrajině / Support of Ukraine
Matematický ústav AV ČR odsuzuje agresi Ruské federace proti Ukrajině, plně se ztotožňuje s prohlášením Akademie věd ČR o podpoře Ukrajiny a vyzývá k okamžitému ukončení bojů a zahájení mírových jednání.

Institute of Mathematics condemns the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, fully endorses the statement of the Czech Academy of Sciences supporting Ukraine, and calls for instant termination of fights and opening of peace negotiations.
Institute of Mathematics further endorses the Appeal from Ukrainian mathematicians (available below). The appeal lists seven specific points on how to support Ukraine, including a reference to a petition calling on NATO to protect Ukraine's airspace.
The Institute also welcomes the brave initiatives of Russian colleagues who openly protest against the war. We are aware of the open letter from Russian mathematicians to President Putin (original version from February 28, 2022), the open letter from scientific journalists (original version from February 24, 2022) and the statement by students and academic staff of Lomonosov University.

Jaroslav Kurzweil passed away
With sorrow, we announce that professor Jaroslav Kurzweil passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the age of 95. Professor Kurzweil was the first director of the Institute of Mathematics after the Velvet Revolution and then its emeritus researcher. He was one of the outstanding representatives of Czechoslovak mathematics, who significantly contributed to the development of Czech and world mathematics as a pioneer of the theory of generalized integration and a leading figure in the qualitative theory of differential equations. He was recognized even outside of the mathematical community as a person of firm principles and clear opinions. We will miss this excellent colleague, kind and good man. Honour his memory!

Mathematical Fluid Mechanics In 2022
The conference will take place in the Institute of Mathematics, CAS, Žitná 25, Prague 1, Czech Republic, on August 22 – 26, 2022.
The aim of the conference is to bring together renowned specialists in the analytical and numerical fields of mathematical fluid mechanics. Invited talks will cover results and open questions in the dynamics of fluids, including fluid-solid interaction and rheological effects, in the incompressible, compressible, and inviscid cases. Furthermore, topics closely related to practical applications will be considered, like the modelling of turbulence, stratified fluid flows and some related homogenization questions. Numerical theory and simulations regarding the above problems will also be a core theme.
Many mathematical societies around the world condemned the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine and in this context questioned the holding of ICM 2022 in St. Petersburg in July this year. The Executive Committee of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) has decided that:
